Swedish music of the millennium

We wrote about music, because it’s a pretty big industry here in Sweden. Here in Sweden we have a music gala called "Grammisgalan" as you can read below. And we wrote about two of our more famous music groups here in Sweden. The first Swedish Grammisgala took place at Berns Salonger in Stockholm on the 25th of September 1969. Among the first winners were Monica Zetterlund, Svante Turesson, Cornelius Vreeswijk, Tommy Körberg, Bengt Hambraeus, Jan Johansson, Stikkan Anderson, Anders Burman . The specially designed Grammissymbol made by the silversmith Claës E. Giertta is still the same today but a lot of things have changed since the first gala thirty years ago. The definition that the jury has says: "Grammis has been created to draw attention to and reward artists, musicians and creators who have made interesting productions within different areas of music. Grammis shall symbolize a broad and artistic Swedish music production". The Grammis awards are the prizes of the record branch to the best artists of the year and to the best music productions. There are eighteen prizes altogether for eighteen categories and there are often some extra prizes.

Petter

Petter is one of Sweden’s best and biggest male artist in this new millennium. He was born just outside our capital city and he is 24 years old. He choked Sweden with he’s great music for about two years ago. His first hit was a song called "Vinden har vänt". He got really famous here in Sweden with that song and the following album sold really well. After the release it took just two or three months before the next single and album was on its way. The next album was not as successful as the first one. He did another album the same year but that was no success either. So after that album it was quiet around Petter for a while. Petter was working hard in the studio with new songs. So one year later the next single and album called "Saker och ting". One month later the next album called "Bananrepubliken" came and this was the best selling album ever for Petter. It was whit this album Petter was nominated to "Grammisgalan" and he got the prise for the best male pop or rock artist in Sweden the year 2000. The CARDIGANS

The Cardigans are a band From Jönköping, Sweden. (It’s in the southern part of our country) The band started in October 1992 by Peter Svensson and Magnus Sveningsson. Bengt Lagerberg joined the band in the late October. Now the only thing they needed was a singer. So, they found Nina Persson, and she came for an audition. That went very well, so from that day on she was their new singer. Their first C.D came in 1994, it was called "Emmerdale". It didn’t sell so much, but now people knew that they existed. When they released their second album 1995, "Life", they became pretty famous in Japan, United Kingdom and the U.S.A. Every single from "life" reached the top 40-charts in U.K. They were fast in the studio to, even the year after (1996) came a new C.D called "the first band on the moon". And from that C.D they have a BIG hit called "Lovefool", that was a song that was ALWAYS on MTV. And their latest album "Gran Turismo" came 1998. It went very well for that album, and they had some hits from that one to. Especially the song whit the same name as the album (Gran Turismo). When they started the band, everyone was dreaming like ALL musicians do. They wanted to tour the world. And five years from that they have been to Japan several times, they have been on the cover for magazines and so on, so they had a fast carrier. Changing from being a bunch nobodies to a known artist over the world, in five years. That’s very good.
