The Millennium Dome The Millennium is seen as “the time to make a difference”. Personally, I can’t see what the big fuss is about. The Millennium Dome is a perfect example of a complete waste of time, effort and money. The dome lies on the Meridian line in Greenwich, England – the place where East meets West at 0° longitude. The opening ceremony was held on the 31st December as the clock struck twelve, and was opened by the Queen. It is only going to be open for 366 days. This is why I feel that it is such a waste of space. It’s not even that attractive to look at. It looks like a giant, overturned wok! Work on the dome was started 2 years ago, and it was even doubted that it would be ready by the 31st December1999. £758 million was spent on the building of the dome, of our money. It was funded by taxes from the public. I know I don’t pay tax, but I don’t see why my parents and friends who do pay tax had to pay money into the building of something that is going to go out of use within a year. 12 Million visitors are expected to explore the dome and share the “millennium experience”. I know I certainly will not be visiting the dome. In fact I can’t think of a worse way to spend my time and money! For a single adult ticket, it costs £20. Considering our money paid for it, I think that is a complete rip-off. There are concessions for O.A.Ps and children, and families of 5 can visit for £11.40. This has been perceived as “extremely good value for money” which naturally, I don’t agree with! I’m not really a negative person, it’s just that when such a lot of money is spent on something completely pointless, it gets me annoyed. I don’t know what other people think of the Dome. Some may think it’s the best invention ever! Well I certainly don’t!!!
